I DUNNO... BUT I'M WILLING TO BET THE WHOLE THINGS EASIER ON 1000 + LB CATTLE THAN ANY BIRD EXCEPT PERHAPS LARGE RATITES.... THEN AGAIN I DONT SEE THE RATITES BEING NEARLY AS COOPERATIVE AS CATTLE...

It is much easier in a small bird than in a 1000lb+ cattle.

okay, so what i don't understand is ...WHY ...Why would you want to hybridize the 2 species...they're not even in the same species.....and mess with something that has nothing wrong with it to make something that does....? just doesn't make sense to me...

I know exactly what you mean. I've been havin' these same conversations with rabbit breeders for years. There's always some genius who thinks that breeding a New Zealand rabbit to a Flemish Giant is somehow gonna' make a "super-size meat rabbit". Since the New Zealand White is the undisputed champion of meat production that has been fine tuned for max production for over 100 years, and a Flemish Giant is a slow growing, high feed consuming, "bone-bag" covered in a thick useless hide, success is impossible.

All you end up doing is creating a NZ that grows slower, converts feed less efficiently, and dresses out horribly after processing. OR........ you end up shrinking the Giant. Why produce offspring that are "lesser" versions of their parents?

Also, I should mention that my comment was in no way referring to Robo or his endeavor. Since he's doing it as a "wouldn't it be cool" project, and involves 12oz quail that will consume 12 cents worth of feed a month. Good ol' fashion Frankenstein fun if you ask me, lol.

Well I'd just like to see what it's like. It would make a cool cross and I want to see if they mature as advertised or it is a lie. Just curious...

yes.exactly. thank you!
it frustrates me no end when people take something that"ain't broke" so they can have a Designer" animal..i have been involved with Dog rescue for YEEEEARS and i see it in dog breeds all the time. Perfect example is the "Labadoodle" ( labrador X standard Poodle ) and the rescues that had to be specifically created for the MASSIVE # of this designer breed that hasn't worked out so well as a pet.
Anyway...back to the Bob-Bird...WHAT IS THE POINT/ PURPOSE?? Really? i do NOT get it

sorry ROBO ... it's not a good thing to do in my opinion ....

Well, I also have mixed feelings about your project. On one side of the coin. It would neat to have it work out as you want. Get a fast growing, friendly bird with a white meat breast in assorted colors. While we're at it, add over 20 oz in 10 weeks, eats and poops like a bob, lays eggs at 6 weeks that are the size of a pheasants.

On the down side. You could bastardize a bob that may or may not be able to reproduce. End up with a frail bird, thats flighty as hell. Slow growing, mean, the size of a standard pharaoh, no white meat. Eats and craps like a horse...

But, This being the good Ol USA, you have the right to try... If It was something that had been stuck in my crack for a while, I would try it too. I'm with JJ on this and my money says the bobs gonna beat the snot out of the cort, then you get to handle bird genitals with the A.I. process. Chances are you aint gonna do any harm, so Its all you man... Good luck

Thats what I say, if it was something I felt like I wanted to try, I would. Long as the mutt didnt get loose or sold, you cant really hurt nuthin, but your wallet a bit... Hell I pi$$ed that much cash away just go'in to get parts for the last "BAD IDEA"... Bill
