Mine wasnt an experiment at all, just wasnt quail-wise at the time.I bought 9 quail from some joker in Rock Hill.He said all were coturnix.Later after I incubated and hatched some quail,I got to learning about the diffrent species and colors.
I really had:
2 tennessee reds
4 bobwhites
3 coturnix
I sold all of those hoping 'littleman" was a coturnix. errrr wrong. After he mated with three coturnix,I had bob birds.I do have some that are coturnix from his hens.
Now I have:
3 bob bird roos
1 bob bird hen
1 texas a&m hen
1 coturnix roo
1 coturnix hen
So now I can use the other quail hutch for raising bob birds. I never even thought of raising them strictly as bobs.
Then Ill keep the mating pair of coturnix
2 bob birds will be kept in the chicken run
the lonly texas a&m hen is a house quail since she was scalped twice. She watches over the chicks in the brooder.
