I'm Going For It Bob-Bird Time!

Robodude, see, you've got a borderline quail fight going here already, and you haven't even begun your project. I'm tellin' ya, the quail fights that this project spawns will be legendary.

I have bob-birds.One we call 'little man".Hes a bob bird from a coturnix roo and a bobwhite hen.He looks like a coturnix, but has a white beardie thingy going on from the bobwhite gene.

There aint no fight here!! Just a good old fashion discussion..... Now granted, some of those DO end up a bit heated at times around here... Kinda like my family reunions...But I figure thats one the things that make life worth live'in. Along with old muscle cars, cold beer, and a good woman with low expectations!!! Bill

This weekend I will.I got to put him and a bob-bird hen together to breed bob birds.I do,for your entertainment, have a pic of one of his sons in the chicken run with the chickens and guineas. Here you go:

Hes on the left of the waterer.

I do not understand why people have a problem with this. Sure with the rarer species of gamebird and fowl I do not agree with cross breeding them to another species but if Robo is like me he is curious about how this is going to turn out. People last time I checked bobwhite and coturnix aint exactly on the ENDANGERED species list. There are thousands being hatched daily around our country. This isn't effecting anyone negatively or the species themselves...in a month or so he can have his bobs back to producing pure offspring.
GO for it Robo and please keep us updated on the progress!

Mine wasnt an experiment at all, just wasnt quail-wise at the time.I bought 9 quail from some joker in Rock Hill.He said all were coturnix.Later after I incubated and hatched some quail,I got to learning about the diffrent species and colors.

I really had:

2 tennessee reds
4 bobwhites
3 coturnix

I sold all of those hoping 'littleman" was a coturnix. errrr wrong. After he mated with three coturnix,I had bob birds.I do have some that are coturnix from his hens.

Now I have:

3 bob bird roos
1 bob bird hen
1 texas a&m hen
1 coturnix roo
1 coturnix hen

So now I can use the other quail hutch for raising bob birds. I never even thought of raising them strictly as bobs.
Then Ill keep the mating pair of coturnix
2 bob birds will be kept in the chicken run
the lonly texas a&m hen is a house quail since she was scalped twice. She watches over the chicks in the brooder.

to me it has NOTHING to do with people. it's about the BIRDS. HOW does this crossing benefit THEM? We are NOT going to improve the Bobwhite and we are NOT going to improve the Coturnix ...so WHY? NO one has so far answered this question for me . If someone could say...well it extends their lives or improves their overall health or makes them better layers or whatever then okay,MAYBE i could get that. I don't see as this accomplishes anything worth getting.....

This first time people sent rockets to space nobody knew what they could get, now look at it, from electronics to fast intercontinental flights, G.P.S., etc.
At first it's and experiment, if it results in something useful will transform into a discovery, if not is kept in the experiment class.

WE EXPERIMENTED WITH BOB BIRDS YEARS AGO FOR DOG TRAINING... WAHT A WASTE OF OXYGEN AND TIME. THEY ARE AS MISADVERTIZED AS A&M'S. THEY GROW SLOW LIKE A BOB, BUT NO WHERE NEAR THE SIZE OF GIANT STRAINS AND THEIR FLIGHT CAPABILITIES ARE THAT OF COTURNIX. AND THEY ARE NOT STERILE. NOW ITS NO SECRET THAT I TEND TO STAY ON THE PURIST SIDE OF THE FENCE, BUT DO HAVE AN OPEN MIND... SO WHEN WE TRIED THIS IT WAS FOR DOG TRAINING--- MOST ENDED UP DOG SNACKS. mhwc56 MAKES THE MOST VALID POINT--- WHY? NOTHING BENEFITS FROM IT. THE ORIGINAL IDEA WAS A BIRD THAT TASTES LIKE BOBS AND MATURES LIKE COTURNIX, IT WAS AN ANGLE AT MAKING FAST TABLE BIRDS OF SUPERIOR ATTRIBUTES OF EACH. REMEMBER THE MOVIE TWINS WITH DANNY DEVITO AND ARNOLD SCHWARTZENEGGER? ARNOLD WAS THE PERFECT SPECIMEN AND DEVITO WAS "ALL THE CRAP LEFT OVER"? LETS JUST SAY BOB BIRDS TAKE DEVITO'S ROLE.

SO, NOW THAT I HAVE PUT THE SOAP BOX AWAY--- HEY ITS A FREE COUNTRY
