I'm Just NOT a Fan !

so funny. I get a luagh out of mine...
They are no different then other chickens except more docile.
I have a standard polish hen and she is the run of the roost. I honestly can't tell the diference. I guess I just spoil mine to much LOL

It is funny to watch fuzzy things run around the yard then anything else..

So my oldest DD hears me say the chicks in the basement are silkies. She wails, "Oh why? Why do we have silkies again?!?"
I keep trying to like them, but she is clearly not a fan!

Had a silkie.. did tricks.. looks normal, til ya pick it up.. then it acted like it was trying to die.. would twist its neck all the way around.
Set it back down,. normal again..
Sold it for $3. The lady thought it was the ugliest thing on the planet!

Sorry... I just fell in love with them. In fact, if it wasn't for silkies... I would have NEVER gotten chickens. They are the only one's that interest me at all.

But I don't hold it against anyone who doesn't like them. Everyone has different likes and dislikes.

Wegotchickens- AWESOME pix of your airborne puffball of rage!!! Holy wow!!!!!

Re: Silkies.... Am new to chickens, but yeah, so far I really like my 2 Silkie babies, VERY snuggly & personable. But then again my Serama, EE, Sizzle, and even the 3 LEGHORNS are quite the "people chickens", really like all of them, too(!!).

Anyway, DID want to mention that my 7yr old DD is not a fan of any of the feather legged guys, says they "don't look like a normal chicken should look", she likes "normal chicken" feet/legs. Silkies, in her opinion, are not "chicken enough"...

My 4 yr old DD, on the other hand, stands in front of the brooder and talks to the Silkies all day long... I swear they call to her for attention... and she comes running... they are mutually obsessed with each other!!!!! I guess 4 yrs old is too young to be in danger of Silkie mind control, but STILL....!!!

My 4 year old thinks they are a waste of space. Give her the meanest rooster on the block, and she will sweettalk him into giving her a backrub!
Silkies, she can do without, yeah they are cute little fluff balls, but, they arent sturdy enough for her. She likes the ones that you can look at and see colors, patterns. Silkies just dont have patterns no matter how bad you spray paint on them.
Her fave is buff orkingtons.. Orpingtons to those who dont speak 4 year old.

I picture myself owning a little silkie banty some day...

Only this chicken will be different then the rest of my flock. I see my self sitting out in the yard, sipping a glass of wine, watchin my flock, with my Lap Chicken silky, sitting there in my lap, like a pomerangingon sp? She will be white and she will be beautiful.

She and I will have a special bond and I will spoil her. She will receive special treats.

She will have her own little ''room'' , and she will have a grand name, fitting to a chicken of her status.
I will take her for rides in the car.

and she will sit on my lap and
tongue2.gif
she will know she is special.....
She will join us in the Big House occasionally, and I will feed her from the table as one of us.
My other chickens will

respect her, they will also know she is special.
Anyway...this is how I picture my future with a silkie......Am I even close???

Hmmm, now THERE's a thought! Spray paint! Yeah!! I suppose that COULD make em more appealing!

That is too adorable, I think that's the first time mispelling Orpington didn't annoy me, or at least distract me! I can just hear her tone of voice when comparing the virtues of "Orkingtons" and those sissy Silky things!

[edit] NEARLY LEGAL DISCLAIMER: NO I'm not condoning spray painting or dying chicks or chickens!!! I'm totally joking about that. YES I'm picking on silkies, but only in good fun, even though I don't think they're real chickens! (though I'm sure they poop like a real chicken)
