I'm making a free flock management system

But personal computers could crash also.

I don't mind working a little harder if it would make more people like, and use Flock Manager. Like I said when we were deciding on a name, sure it's my project, and I can do whatever I want with it. But it would be no good if no one uses it.

Too true I have a desktop that won't access the internet right now, because an update corrupted the gateway!

Luckily I have a laptop as well!

Thats true but you are working real hard at this so you need to do what is a little easier for you. If nobody likes it then just "tweek" it to where you have every bird owner in the country wanting it. Start out "small" and work around the "likes" you never know people might like downloading better than interenet. The other way around. Honestly I wouldn't mind either one. Why don't you make a little poll adnd take a survey or something like that? Maybe all in favor of downloading the "Flock Management software please put yes or other wise please put no. Something like that. Just trying to help. Good Luck with it and thanks for your hard work.

If you are taking a poll on it, I would prefer to download it to my computer so I don't have to be on the internet, but do what is best for you. Some people are still on dialup and can't be online all the time. We all appreciate all the time you are taking to make this happen.
Edited to refrase what I wrote the first time.

Nifty-Chicken said that I could tell. What we are thinking about doing with Flock Manager is making it part of BYC. It would be integrated with the BYC user system and automatically be made available to all members of BYC. It would be hosted on the BYC servers and protected by Nifty's "amazing backup schemes". So the chance of the servers crashing and loosing your data is very low. Of course, nothing is decided yet. Nifty is talking with the staff and weighing "some high level items ... that would need to be addressed before diving too deep into it", and I'm pondering the prospect of rewriting everything

, and trying to get everyone's thoughts about moving Flock Manager to a website. Come on folks! I need some more opinions! Review the pros and cons listed here and let me know what you think.

Yup, this could potentially be a great part of BYC. Once logged into the forum you'd have access to your own "flock management system". No additional websites, logins, etc. to remember. Just visit BYC and access your flock database.

It isn't a simple or small project, so the big questions are:

1) Would a lot of people use it?
2) How many resources (time, money, etc.) would it take to build and maintain the system
3) Which features are "Must Have" and which are "Would like to have" items?
4) How many peeps would use it?

We've always got a TON of projects going on and on the "todo" list at BYC. We shuffle the priorities of items based on the resources needed to complete them and how worthwhile they are for our community. In big project cases like this we definitely need to make sure it is something a lot of peeps would like to use before setting out to make it a part of BYC.
