This is already on the property and was used as a chicken run.
The owner said the coop was next to it, and he had a culvert ? Attached from coop to run, he opened pop door and they went to run, at night they went back to coop thru culvert (pipe). There is a round hole in run, next to door. I am thinking, same setup, I have a 4ft long section of culvert to use. I need (want) to put a roof on run. Considering metal panels, but may just use hardware cloth til I get time (after move in). Not sure size of run. It does have a partial add on (unfinshed). Ideas? Thoughts? Opinions?

Agree, I wouldn't use chemicals in the chicken area. I would probably weed-eat or pull anything nasty (thorny blackberries, nightshade, etc.) and anything that would prevent you or chickens from moving around comfortably. Then, I'd wait and see what works. They'll enjoy having some vegetation for hiding and cooling off, and will scratch up a bunch of it.
I don't quite understand the coop and culvert arrangement. Looks like it's inside the run?
Hardware cloth roof makes sense for predator protection. You can always tarp it for weather.

There IS a small covered "house" in run (protection from rain?) But the main coop was next to it-linked by a culvert.....

All the tall trees growing up out of the run will make it hard to put hardware cloth on, and make it predator proof. Maybe use netting for the run, for daytime/hawk protection, and make a secure, open-design coop butting up next to the run?
I have the coop-just gotta get it moved.
I think the trees are outside tun-going there tomorrow to thoroughly look it over-then we'll see...
