Hi, I'm Kristin, and I've been raising chickens since I was around 12 years old, so I'm not new to that. Just new to these forums. It's nice to meet fellow chicken-lovers, and I hope you're all having lovely days (or evenings). :)

Last summer, I had my entire flock killed by my "neighbor", after he opened the coop and let his dog attack all my beautiful, sweet babies. It was heartbreaking, because I raise chickens as pets, not food or for money.

You can skip this paragraph/ramble if you don't want to hear the full story: We caught them in the act, but since we had no video proof, it was their word against ours. When we warned them not to ever let their dog in our yard again, they threatened to shoot both my dogs if they go near their yard! One of which is my service dog. Fortunately, they're both very obedient, and never leave my side. Needless to say, we filed a police report, but nothing can be done unless one of our dogs gets hurt. This time, we have cameras, one of my dogs is now trained to be a future chicken "guardian", and we have the police report. Any new chickens will be safe now.

On to what I joined for, I believe I am ready to raise new chickens again, so I've joined here. Mainly to ask a question from people with more experience or who have been in similar situations, but also to discuss raising hens when I can.

Does anyone know where I should post a pesticide question? It's not an emergency, because I don't have sick chickens, but it's something pretty important to prevent future chickens from getting sick.

Sorry for the long read! :p

Thanks!

I'm sorry that you have to know the pain too. :hugs It's always difficult for me to lose a bird, and I know others feel the same way sometimes. On a related note, I honestly don't know how people can cull. I could never with my floofs. No judgement to those who do though. Everyone has their reasons for chickens. Even my grandpa used to get rid of his older hens. I just get so attached to my hens and roosters.
