I'm not a dog person, but...

LoupGarou, just like my beloved EE's, she's a mutt.

I know.

It doesn't bother me. They could slap whatever fancy title on her they wanted. I just fell in love with her little face.

Monarc,

it was bad enough when I had to take a stray cat in there once. We wanted the cat to find a family as we had tried to integrate her into ours, but she and another one of our cats just wouldn't get along. So I drove her down to the Humane Society. I felt really horrible about it all until a young woman came in with her cat all swaddled up in a towel. It had been hit by a car, and she wanted help. The best they could do for her was put it to sleep, but it was almost already there. It was awful and I felt like giving her a great big hug (but didn't, because she might find it weird that a total stranger wanted to give her one!).

And I have to admit, petfinder is great, I seen the dogs going out to other families and they all looked good. They gave us copies of the vet bills to show what has been done so far too! So far we have had her 2 weeks and she is one active pup, but we love her. The funny thing is too she is afraid of the chickens!

Yeah I agree, Andy. Part of the reason I said, "if I could". But then if they are a looking after a ton of dogs and don't get outside donations to help keep things going, I can see them charging big bucks. Particularly if people are willing to pay.

I'm not taking issue with her being a mutt--I think she's just adorable (and I have some EE eggs in the incubator right now, too!). I was just clearing up some misinformation in the ad for people who might read it and walk away believing that there are kennels directly affiliated with the AKC. Petfinder has a distinct anti-breeder agenda, which is my major issue with them.

What I find funny is that the same people who justify the high "adoption fees" that some shelters and rescues charge are the same people who criticize breeders for charging hundreds of dollars for their puppies. Apparently it is more honorable to clean up after other people's mess and treat the illnesses that some dogs come in with than it is to prevent the mess in the first place and be proactive with health testing and health care.

You are suckered now girl!!!! I never did care for dogs much, until that danged border collie we had til last year. Now I pick up every stray I see and find them home. And we are keeping the last 3 puppies.

I have worked for Geauga Humane Society, Geauga Dog Warden, ( which now a no kill shelter) and havw gotten a dog off of pet finder. I was raised with dogs all my life. Dad actually went out a got a mix puppy the day I was born. Surprise Mom Two babies. But anyways, I could never understand how anyone could charge so much for any size dog. I hunted and showed Grand night champion dogs. We could get easily 2500.00 for a dog. 500 to 1500 for a pup. I was told I was not a good breeder because I was not going for the money when the papers were there. I'm sorry money was not the issue it was getting the perfect home for them. I found I was not alone 4 years ago when I went to my feed store and a lady asked if we knew anyone wanting a small breed dog, I asked what kind, her reply was a chiuauha. I said yes I'd be very interested she took my number and when they were born I got pick of the litter. I have a beautifull 3lb chi. One of the most spoiled brats in this house. I paid nothing for her. If your thinking of getting this dog, (which Is gorgus) see what medical ills were incurred and other expenses they put into him/her. Just because there small they can't charge you for that.

I thought the same thing. I paid $150 adoption fee for a mutt which I thought was pushing it slightly but she was worth it -- she came with some extras like her shots spaying and chipping so I wasn't feeling TOO guilty about it.
