im old but new.

Hello:frow
Welcome to BYC!!
So glad to have you here!!
Thanks for sharing your story!!
You have come to the right place. Just like @TwoCrows said check everywhere for holes and make sure you are using hardwire cloth not chicken wire. We have alot of coons here in florida and they may have tried getting the hens and only managed to get their tailfeathers.
There are many people on here that are ready to help in anyway they can!
The learning center also has alot of great information on it as well!
Enjoy!:wee

G’Day from down under Dawn :frow Great to meet you!

Living in Aus, I am not familiar with your predators but I have read many stories here on BYC.

I read one just the other day where it was suggested that a mink [I think it was a mink] could possibly be nipping the chickens

Also, a story I read a while back where the chickens had sore, rubbed areas on their back but no rooster in residence so not from mating; turned out that the chickens had grown too big for their coop door. So, while they were younger and smaller, no issues but as they had gotten bigger, they were catching on the door on the way in and out.

Nothing similar in your coop or something changed that they could be getting caught on?

If the chickens are doing it to each other, you could try putting Blue Kote on their reddened areas. It has a bitter taste and may keep them from repeating bad behavior. Also it covers the red. Chickens will peck at anything that looks red, sore and/or bleeding. They can even gang up on others and peck them too death.
