Just as the title says.............. I'm planning on buying 5 or 6 BR chicks next week. I don't have a broody but whatever. I'm making a nice brooder out of a 2' by 3' by 2 1/2 gray tub. I do have a heat lamp, chick waterer, and chick feeder. I'm going to mix some dirt after it drys out from all this rain with some ash to make a nice dust bathing area in the brooder.

It's in my room 'cause my mom plainly told me if I ever wanted baby chicks and I didn't have a broody I'd have to keep them in my room!

So what. I want chicks so bad and I'm going to get them.

I know exactly what you mean! I'm not strong enough to brave the feedstore alone. . . I need someone with me to restrain me when I "wander" towards the chick bins. . .

I bet. I've got 2 names already picked out. Patty and Penelope. I used to have some nice BR with those names but they got killed in the Raccoon Masscre.

If they are in your room, don't give them a dust bath. you'll really regret it. I had a tremendous amountof dust all over the place after I gave my 6 some dirt

Then what do I do for litter? I know not to use Newspaper or Ceder Shavings. I can't afford Pine Shavings. Well maybe I can do Papertowls.

Aspen works well. Get the kind they sell at the pet stores that is Aspen shavings and not saw dust. That will lower the amount of dust they kick up. Later, they will create dust, but it will come directly from them not the litter.

Just 4 days till I get them!!! I got the brooder all set up and I'll turn the heat lamp on Monday night or Tuesday morning. I've got 4 names for them so far.

Get it? My other BR hen Pepper, that was her name but her sister Patty was killed and since she's 4 y/o and still laying I decided to start over with the Peppermint Patty.

I'm still trying to figure out a fifth name since I'm getting five 2 week old BR chicks.
