I'm pregnant! (8 months along now, no longer morning sick!)

Quote:
Gerber back then were thick I used the gerber brand rubber pants too. I did not have a leakage problem with them. At first I did because I was not putting them on tight enough. I was afraid they would be to tight. But after I figured that out I did not have a problem with leakage. It has been 5 years since I had to buy anything for diapers but I will put a call to my friends that have babies now that use cloth diapers to see what they buy and use. I am with kids of all ages 24/7 so I should be able to get better info for you. The newer stuff. I also have a friend that makes her own, and sells them. I will see if she still does it. I think it is great that you are willing to do things this way. I'm sure you are already getting flack for it. I did big time.

Congrats! I'm ready for a third and my youngest is only 10 months old! LOL! Any way, Are you wanting to use cloth diapers for saving money or the environment? Cause they make all natural disposable diapers now that are 100% bio-degradeable. I think it's cool to use cloth diapers I just personally would find it too much of a hassle! LOL! As far as morning sickness....I didn't have much with either of my girls. What I did for the first was, since I knew I was going to hurl soon after getting up I would wait to eat till after I puked. I hate to upchuck chunks cause they get up my nose and hold the smell and make me sick all over again. If I just sipped water nothing would come up but water. I could handle that. after that I could eat and would be fine the rest of the day. With my second I found if I got up in the middle of my sleep time and ate a bowl of cerieal I would be fine when I got up. Also, don't eat anything that you don't want. If youre not even in the mood for a certain food the taste might make you vomit. I was addicted to Blimpie with both my kids. And with the first I also was into canned spagehtti and veinna sausage. With the second it was cocoa pebbles. That was all I wanted to eat. And I ALWAYS stopped at Blimpie after doc. appointments! LOL! have you found out what youre having yet? Hey also, I make baby blankets baby slings and tie dyed onesies if youre interested. You can look at some of my stuff on Photobuket. You'll see pics of my chickens there and stuff as well. any way if you wanna look at the stuff I make you can find it here.

Oh, the Photobucket link isn't loading for me. But thanks for the information, guys! I've switched my registry over to ask for 30 pre-fold inserts in newborn size and 30 in the next size up. I added a few diaper covers onto the list. If anyone wants to analyze the job I've done making a registry and give me a few pointers on what I should add or take off, here's the list: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/registry.html?ie=UTF8&type=baby&id=1AOMXO0XZUYA7. Oh, and yes, I am getting some flack for choosing cloth. People say I'm making too much work for myself, but I figure moms had to do it that way for a really long time. I'm doing it for environmental reasons, cost reasons, and because I hear that if you get the right ones, you get fewer poop blowouts and diaper rash problems. Overall, they just seem like a better solution, although a big investment up front and a lot of water wasted doing laundry. Still, it seems like despite the water, they're still better for the environment, and I'm all about my kids making less impact than they need to. Americans make up something like 5% of the world's population but we use 25% of the resources, so I'm trying to reduce consumption in my family on all fronts. Plus, I've gotten lots of flack for even having a kid...people have actually told me to my face that having a kid is the most selfish thing a person can do, given the world's overpopulation problem. I obviously disagree, but the truth is, America consumes too much. Ok, stepping back down off my soapbox now.

Also, I'm now in week 18 and morning sickness ended so long ago I can barely remember it, thank goodness! I started this thread with that first question in mind, meaning to keep it going for all my pregnancy related questions, which is why I'm still adding to it even though the initial topic isn't really applicable anymore. Do you guys think I should add to the title with something like (Morning sickness now over)?

Hey I give you kudos for going the cloth diaper way! I just don't have the patients for it! LOL! Over population??? Thats a joke! The world is NOT over populated. People are silly

I get slack too for wanting more kids. Funny thing I get most of it from my mom! She says she "just worries". Ok, i have depression and anxiety problems and you want to stress me out MORE by riding me on how YOU think I'm going to die!? Any way, You can try going to photobuket and look up user vkp23. Yes I use the same screen name for EVERYTHING! LOL! Let me know if you find it. Thought of any names yet?

We love cloth diapers at our house!!

The Gerber prefolds (today, don't know about the past...) are too thin to work well. You can buy packages of good prefolds online for pretty cheap. I like indian prefolds the best, but we also had some chinese ones that worked well. The Chinese one are not quite as soft, though really still perfectly fine.

Make sure you get 2 or 3 snappis to use instead of pins!!!!

For newborn covers, be sure to buy covers with gussets in the legs. The gussets keep any exploding poop from leaking out. We almost never had blow outs with gussets. Prowraps brand of covers are kind of ugly, but extremely functional for newborns and they are hardy so you can use them for your next baby, if you have more, or resell them.

We also loved fitted diapers. Kissaluvs and Motherease were my favorites. The Kissaluvs are perfect for newborns, especially in the middle of the night.

I would get 2 or 3 dozen diapers and at least 8 covers. You can let damp covers dry and reuse them at the next diaper change, but if the baby poops a lot you'll have to throw those covers in the wash.

Make sure you get two wetbags--they are water proof bags to put the diapers in, then you throw the diapers and the bag in the wash. You'll need two because one will be in the wash and one will be full of diapers! There are also small wetbags with zippers that you can stick in the diaper bag for when you're out. Avoid the wetbags that have fabric on the outside and PUL (waterproof fabric) on the inside. I've found that those kind let the moisture wick to the pretty fabric outside, and stuff gets wet. Ick. It's not a problem if you just buy the kind that are one layer of plain PUL fabric.

This is where I got one of my wetbags. (I made the other...)

One other thing that really helped us was fleece liners. Just buy fleece from the fabric store, use pinking sheers to cut it into wide strips, and lay that in the crotch of the prefolds or fitted diapers. The fleece stays dry and the moisture goes right through it into the diaper, so the baby's bottom stays dry and rash-free! They are also great for later when the baby has more solid poops...you can just shake it off in the toilet because for some reason poop doesn't stick to the fleece like it does to the cloth of the diapers. If you breastfeed, the infant poop can just all go into the wash like it is, it dissolves away easily.
