I'm so old I Remember when:

Legos that didn't come with a build manual.

I used Tinkertoys to make a playground for my parakeet.
The Legos also weren’t sold in kits.
I remember when windows first became available and I asked my parents if I could get more windows as I was building a Lego house (I already got roof tiles).
We went to a toy store and I believe I picked out individual pieces. Not 100% sure of my memory on that.

Most people here seem to plan ahead and ensure their dogs will be calm since it is a given that fireworks will go off. I don't think most of these people are trying to be jerks, I think they are trying to celebrate. Though I will say that anyone setting off fireworks past 12:15 AM should stop and head to bed (people here do it for hours afterwards.) Planning ahead will make it much easier to put up with. I ensure to have plans set out so I can get the rest I need and that my animals will be safe.
I'm not about to buy CBD for my fur babies. The city has opening night celebrations every year. If people don't want to be jerks, they can drive the 10 miles into downtown to the big celebration where there's everything from street vendors to magic shows to roller derby to boat rides on the river and a huge firework display with a live band at midnight. No need to break the law and upset every dog on the block. 👿

I remember when a glass bottle of Orange Crush out of the vending machine was 10 cents and all the ladies wore hats and gloves downtown.
Speaking of which, you reminded me that when I was very young my grandmother would get all dressed up to go shopping downtown. (This was in York Pa.) I remember that at noon, I believe, the National anthem would be played over loud speakers any everyone would stop and place their hand over their heart until it was over.

Is this one? My son the electrician brought it home about a year ago. He was politely showing interest when in a customers house who's showed him all sorts of neat old stuff he collected. The gentleman was impressed with both my son's kindness and manners as well as the job he'd done and gave the cannon to him as he was leaving. That sucker is heavy. Yes. Can’t remember exactly what mine looked like after about 60 years but definitely similar. You’d but a bit of carbide and water in it, it would generate carbide gas, you ignite with a spark ( can’t remember exactly how mine worked) and it would produce a substantial bang.
