I'm so old I Remember when:

Well, I loved school, did well, and didn't cause trouble. The teachers liked me. I never took in apples. Cookies, a few times; spring flowers, once or twice. Lent record albums back and forth with a few of them.
I loved school, did well, and did cause trouble. Some teachers liked me. Some found me annoying.
Only on the teachers b’day or the end of term I brought a little present. Like a chocolate bar or a flower.

Guessing,in part, because others felt you made them look bad?
We moved to that school when I started 6th grade. In 5th grade, I learned how to do fractions in math.

In the new school, they learned that in 6th grade, early in the year. So that was simple for me. Early on, in adding fractions, the teacher wrote the following problem on the board:

3/6+4/8+5/10+6/12 = ? (Or something like that.)

I saw that they were all 1/2, the answer was 2, and had it in about 5 seconds and stood by my desk. (That's how you signaled you were done, instead of raising your hand.)

Oh, man, did I get dirty looks from the kids.

I'm so old I remember getting in trouble during math early on. When we started adding two columns of numbers I wouldn't write down the number of tens I was adding to the second column. I just wrote down the correct answer. By the sixth grade I hadn't learned to show my work. By Geometry we had to show our work or got it wrong. What a bummer.

I'm so old I remember this lovely man who really had a way with words. 💖
