I'm so old I Remember when:

I remember I never wake up early at all, once I sleep, I sleep straight through from night to morning.

Now I get wake up at 3am by ache and pain.
What do I do when I wake up this early? Switch on my computer.

I can not remember what I did when I wake up early many moons ago? I did not wake up early, the only time I did was to do my studied.

I remember where I was standing and what I was doing when the announcement that JFK had been assassinated.
I do too. I was in elementary school at the time. The teacher was so very upset and was rambling on about something to the effect that the president got a shot... It was confusing at first for a kid to have an adult be so upset by that... Geez, I was just a kid and a measles or some other kind of shot was no big deal... It wasn't until she calmed down some and collected herself enough to make it clear that he had actually been shot... as in with a gun and that he had likely been killed. Then that sickening overwhelming feeling of anguish, anxiety and utter helplessness swept over me... It felt like that on 9/11 too.

Originally, landlines were powered, so if the power went out the phones could still be used. They also had multiple routes, so if one section of line went down they could reroute through another.

When you called 911 through a landline, it was always available and they knew precisely where you were calling from.

cordless phones did not work when the power went out

But we still had our wall phone to use

The other day at the self-checkout, someone before me left their change in the coin bowl. I'm now 18¢ richer - almost enough to cover inflation for the week.
18cents, that person still carry 1 cent coin?

I still see 1 cent coin at my mom's house here and there in the odd place. When I was growing up I used to collect them from my parents and then with a purse full of it, I went to the bank.

The money she referred to is automatically dispensed when a person pays cash and has coins coming back as change at a checkout.

Oh...so the shop still carry that 1 cent coin. We do not have that anymore, they all rounded up.. or rounded down. From my experience if the change to me is 18 cents, the cashier gives me back 15 cents. But if I have to pay out say $1.18 cents, they tell me $1.20 cents.

A long while back, I still had 1 cent coin, they told me they do not take 1 cent coin anymore. I could argue with them that it is a legal coin, but for 1 cent people have to wait for me, they might be curing me in their mind so I moved on.
