Now, our bank has an automatic sorter. Dump your change, and it gives you a receipt to take to the teller.
Take a close look at the coins that are kicked back at you. The machines are set to accept the newer weights and will kick out older coins from before they, for instance, changed from copper pennies to copper coated tin. Dimes and quarters have been likewise adulterated. You might find something of value you didn't realize you had in your possession all along.
 
I remember having to pack coins in those paper rolls to take to the bank. They didn't take loose coins.
Our bank took out the coin machine so we are now back to rolling our own. Daughter said it is because the machines are expensive to maintain. Too much FOD, like bullets, DAD!
