I'm so old I Remember when:

I bet! I`m 69, I have a Stihl with a 20 inch bar. I have been cutting firewood for our home for close to 40 years! I guarantee I can still get it done! Might take longer but that`s ok! 🙂
Hubby agrees with you 100%. The only thing he has changed over the years is how he splits the logs. He uses the 45hp tractor's hydraulics do the bull work of splitting for him. When we are splitting firewood the splitter is in the upright position.

That will make short work of it!

Older people and chainsaws worry me because my grandpa died of a heart attack while cutting fallen trees with a chainsaw. He was just eighty.

I know that’s just one person out of many but still…

I'm sorry for your loss. 🫂

I will say this: I would rather die while working outdoors than wasting away alone in a hospital bed.

I used to clean horse stalls with my friend on her ranch and while we were cleaning she would say, "You know, there are people in hospital beds who would give everything they own to trade places with us right now." She was right.

I have always liked working outdoors and I have never minded cleaning stalls or coops. I'll do as much as I can for as long as I can.

That’s true, and I would prefer to die actively working as well. It was just kind of hard on my grandma when she found him.

It's not quantity of life, it's quality of life. :old

Hubby used to split most of our wood by hand. We'd rent a splitter once a year for the big stuff. A few years ago, he decided to buy a splitter and do it all that way. Faster and easier on the joints. We got a 40 ton, as he said, "I want it to do anything I can give it. And we're only buying one."

I heartily seconded his decision.
