I'm so old I Remember when:

You know I thought of something last night and now I'm so old I can't remember it when I get the computer up and going.

But I do remember instead of crushing and bailing cardboard boxes they used them for customers to take home groceries in. Very handy for those in pickups with one bench seat with mom and pop and 3-4 youngins in there with them.
Larger stores had incinerators and many cardboard boxes were burned.

I remember how the store used to double bag the cold items such as meat and dairy items and the heavy items. I remember bagging fewer items for the elderly so they wouldn't be to heavy. Now it seems they just through them in even if you are walking with a cane.
All depends not only which store you shop at and which checker you get. I still get the double bagging and fewer items per bag. The checker being the more important factor since some stores have the policy of not double bagging.

We have a small town local grocery store close to me. I don't shop there extensively because unfortunately for them there's a lot of other cheaper options but they have the old fashioned baggers that know how to bag groceries.
They do paper or plastic and most people just do plastic or bring they're own tote bags. I always get paper cause it's cool and one of the last places around that does it. They don't double bag but it's never seemed to been needed. They also a heavier "cold" bag that they put freezer items and usually all refrigerated items in.
They also ask ever customer if they want their bags carried to their vehicle.

Record players are available at Walmart now. All the old goodies are making a comeback. 😊
We have an old record player that spent over 20 years in a box getting toted around with us. I can't remember how many times I tried to get DH to toss it. He finally got it repaired and gets to listen to his precious old albums again 😂
