I'm so old I Remember when:

When my sister, brother and I would stay the weekend back in the late 50s early 60s with Grandmom and Grandpop my job was to trek out to the Kerosene shed where there were 55 gal drums horizonal with spigots. Bring the 2 gal can in and fill the kitchen and living room heaters. Was glad when they upgraded to forced hot air. Late 60s.

I would have traded with you.

My father would bring home a pickup load of coal. I got to unload it shovel by shovel into the cellar coal bin through a basement window. We had forced air heat but the furnace was a coal burner that got fed by hand (one shovel at a time).

I think his wife is on that thread, she says he’s having health problems.
Re @Nomadicus. Not to worry, nothing life-threatening, he has back and (I think) hip pain. His wife, @Rambling Iris keeps us informed. She's a regular on Granny's thread and he still pops in when he can.

Nope, no trades. Our coal truck would pull curb side set up the chute and send it to the bin in the cellar that was close to the coal burner. Remember standing on the one floor grate in the morning 'cause it was the warmest place in the house, somehow seemed sister always was in the center.
