I'm so old I Remember when:

More things this thread has reminded me of : THE camera was Kodak Brownie. In the evening we were entertained by listening to "The Shadow" on the large tube type radio. That was before TV. Also cross country trips were on State or county roads mostly with a few US roads like Route 66; but no "Interstate Highways"

I don't want to put my "Southerner Card" at risk here but, I'm told and have found they're is not a problem using dish soap on cast iron. The problem was when the only soap was 'lye soap' which leached the seasoning out.
I like my cast iron and stainless pots and pans so I can steel wool them if need be. I wouldn't use the teflon coated ***p for love or money. IMHO
I wash cast iron at times, but also dry it right away and heat it on the stove with a little peanut oil.

I learned real quick that it was an old seasoned frying pan and never. never use an abrasive pad, not even hot water. Cold water wiped with a clean dish towel. That frying pan made the best Home Fries.
Mum has one like that makes the best bacon and eggs 😊

I have some very old Cast Iron from the good old days that needs a face lift. I want to restore the finish first with a sandblaster and then season them properly. One is a Dutch Oven and the other is a 4" deep with lid chicken fryer. I don't see such in the stores now.
