We had to memorize poems and limericks in our first grade class.I remember my first favourite poem from school - I was just outside at he barn doing evening chores, chooks and horses are set for the night. Then I admired the moon and stars looking for northern lights. None to be seen but it reminded me of the poem.
The Cremation of Sam McGee
BY ROBERT W. SERVICE
There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee

There was an old man of Blackheath
Who sat on his set of false teeth
Said the man with a start
"Oh Lord bless my heart!
I've bitten myself underneath!"
