The Brighten Beach on LBI? If so, you had to go to the store because back in the '50s LBI was a ghost town in the winter months.

I believe Neil Simon was referring to the neighborhood in Brooklyn.

We loved running through the sprinklers at my grandma's house! She had an in-ground sprinkler system so there were sprayheads all over her back yard. And she had one of those gliders with a canopy we could sit on & swing while we ate our popsicles. Bliss!

We used to freeze cups of Koolaid with a "popsickle stick in them and sell them to the neighborhood kids for a nickle.
