I'm so old I Remember when:

I would ask, how does one "reset the pump" without paying, but I'd just as soon you not explain on a public forum.
The pump used to reset when the driver lifted the nozzle to pump their petrol or diesel, simple as that. Since some places let you pump and then go inside to pay while your car was sitting at the pump, no other driver would be resetting it until they were at the fuel pump since your vehicle was blocking it. This was back in the 70's and not all stations but a few which recent to that point had used pump jockeys who'd pump for you, collect the cash, you'd drive off and the next car would pull up. It was a convenience for them to not have to run inside between each customer. The stations went to self service but were a little slower in changing that aspect of the routine.

I remember the first time I was in the vehicle when someone did that. I felt angry, shocked, disappointed, and just as guilty as if I were the one who did it. Obviously it left a lasting memory as I'm here talking about it 45 years later.

One of the reasons I feel sorry for the youth of today is their bad juvenile decisions are being recorded by themselves and their friends to haunt them forever.

For those who knew her, my wife Tracy, Ursuline Chick, passed away last week.
I posted a tribute to her at Ursuline Chick.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Thank you for the heads up. I took a gander over there and I very much enjoyed all your photos. The "to many mediocre things" on the one with the horses was just perfect, and the fact that it was hand written next level did me in.

If you don't mind my asking, in my naivety I'd assumed her name was Ursula or some variation. Come to find out, it's Tracy. How did she come to choose that screen name? Is there a story there?

These are more for the Brits out there -
- I remember when Wagon Wheels were twice the size
- I remember when Cadbury cream eggs only came out at Easter.
- I remember when car names could be easily pronounced
- I remember when there was only one film on tv per week “the Saturday matinee”
Applies to Canadians too!

I loved Wagon Wheels as a kid. When I saw the size of them now, I wondered if it was me getting bigger, or them getting smaller. Probably both!

The bareback riding in the Caribbean was incredible. At points the horses were swimming. There were schools of fish between us and the beach. She was so thrilled that she got to climb the pyramids and swim in cenotes.
Ursuline Chick referred to her High School Ursuline Academy. She, our daughter and countless family attended. Since she would have loved to tell you about it, I will. It was founded in 1727. It is the oldest continually operating girl's school in the country, the oldest Catholic school in the country and the oldest business in New Orleans. It was opened by the Ursuline Sisters on the request of French Crown, to teach the girls of the Louisiana Territory. They took that to mean the white, slave, free, and native girls.

A quirk about New Orleans, when someone ask where you went to school, they mean "Where did you go to High School?" :D

It's great that you have so many happy memories. And thank you for the history lesson!

I tried to go to her page, but I can't access it.
