I'm so old I Remember when:

My landline is on a UPS for constant power. It works even if the tower is having problems and they do where I am.

What happens if you dial 911 from an address a few doors down? Can they determine exactly which residence you are calling from? I don't know... If so Big Brother is getting good.
If you call 911 from your cell phone your general location is known, but it’s not always pinpoint accuracy. My daughter is a 911 dispatcher. That’s why when you call you need to tell them where in the park you are, or where in the mall you are, etc.

Our first car, a $300 used 'unsafe at any speed' Corvair. It ran, until the engine died. And we fortunately never were in an accident with it. I think it was before Nader's book came out anyway. Most cars weren't safe, especially by today's standards.

I remember cars without seatbelts

On 9/11, we turned off the tv at 8:45 am, right before the disaster. I first heard about it on NPR radio, while driving at lunch time. Then couldn't stop watching the tv coverage, horrible. Can't bring myself to watch it now. Or Vietnam war footage, saw too much then.
And when Secretariat won the Belmont race by 31 lengths, we were overseas, and heard about it on the radio. And I was amazed, thought the report said 13 lengths, stunning enough! WOW!!!
