Unfortunately it is quite addictive. It worked so much better for me than dextromethorphan does.
Dad would make us kids a "hot buttered rum" at bedtime for sore throats & associated miseries. We slept great...We took aspirin for a fever. And when we took cough medicine, it was a spoonful or two. And a shot of whiskey for general ailments.![]()
Yep so my mum said. The booze was for medicinal reasons onlyWe took aspirin for a fever. And when we took cough medicine, it was a spoonful or two. And a shot of whiskey for general ailments.![]()
Yes Codien Bitartrate is an excellent antii-tussive; different from Codien Phosphate which is a good short term pain med.I remember when cough medicine was codeine.
Yes both are opioids - when metabolized some of it turns into morphine in your system. They act as a central nervous system depressant. Which is why it’s a good cough med, it suppresses the respirations. As a pain meds it interrupts pain signals, and yes the opioid can bind to receptors in the brain and cause a person to become addicted. The real issue is that opioids become less effective over time requiring more and more to control pain. They are better for short term pain control I.e. fractures requiring surgical reduction, other types of surgery…. But only short term - one week tops. Unfortunately drs over prescribe because of a lack of good long term pain meds and not knowing how to treat and train patients on pain management techniques. People want instant relief.Unfortunately it is quite addictive.
Yes and for me who can’t take dextromethorphan, make me extremely nauseous and dizzy and doesn’t do anything for my cough. And it works to control my RLS, which is good when I am ill I want and need rest. Unfortunately the codien bitartrate keeps me awake! My mind is so alert not at all drowsy like normal people haha! And it make me itch (this is a common issue with opioids not related to allergy, it’s been called a pseudo-allergy).It worked so much better for me than dextromethorphan does.
I went through that garbage too and never understood it. I didn't have the going to hell bit...sorry you had to go through that.Got a plywood wack board along the knuckles for using my left hand.
Grandma said I was going to hell for using my left hand but no teacher would ever hit me again. A Aunt was teacher she came down from the cities three times a week to school me.
Only one of day of it thank heavens.I went through that garbage too and never understood it. I didn't have the going to hell bit...sorry you had to go through that. But the schools trying to make you use your right hand. Felt like trying to walk with my nose.
Ok...maybe not that bad! But when you're really young you sure can think that![]()
At one point last spring my doctors had me taking 2 types of morphine, oxycodone, gapabentin, methocarbamol, and fentanyl patches. I had a print out of what to take and when. But I was definitely not in pain anymore. I could've lopped off a limb and not noticed. Thankfully that was a temporary concoction. Now it's just tylenol.Yes Codien Bitartrate is an excellent antii-tussive; different from Codien Phosphate which is a good short term pain med.
