'Icicles' had a different name, and were made out of lead, very thin, and had enough weight that each one would hang perfectly vertically. And were applied to the tree one by one, with a bit of wine to help the process along.

They were certainly beautiful but finding them in the vacuum bag or static clinging to your pantleg months later was never much fun.

Ugh, icicles! Mom insisted we hang them one by one. And take them off the same way and put them back in their cardboard packages to use the following year. Only once did we use the "toss by handfuls" method, and we all hated the effect. That tree got burned with the icicles still on it.

Must have, mom wouldn't use anyone else, and I don't recall us ever buying any new appliances, ever, growing up.

Yes, I know. I had several pairs. They would always chip/crack while in use. Fortunately, I wore glasses so my eyes were spared.
