I'm so old, I remember about 25 years ago, my then 17 year-old-son with red hair died his hair purple. I asked why? He said he wanted to be different. As if having red hair isn't different enough? Everyone called him Barney. I guess he got the attention he was seeking.

(Note: He is a very well-adjusted 42-year-old now though).

I'm only a few years older.

Mine (now 43) around that same time, bought Barney purple suede Dr. Martin's. When kids asked where he got them, he would say he skinned Barney. The little ones would cry.
