I'm so old I Remember when:

There is an Aldi in a city not far from me. My MIL goes there sometimes. I've never been.

I recall someone here mentioned German chocolate cake. You shouldn't have done that to me. 🤪

I may have to go check them out.
This time of year, I'm a sucker for their white and dark chocolate drizzled caramel corn. Not so much their version of lebkuchen, though. Some things are just better homemade.

Last year my brother and I did a taste comparison between their panettone and the one carried at Wegmans. Both were tasty but side-by-side in a blind taster, the "real" simple ingredients used in the cheaper one from Aldi won hands down.

All around me we have long leaf pine. I see truck after truck load some days. One day I will ask just what all they are used for.

I remember when pine stumps where use in making gunpowder.... in central FL there was a place we drove by where they got loaded onto railroad cars and shipped out. To where I don't know. What kind of gun powder I don't know. As kids we were just told for gun powder. The tree tops made treated poles for phone and electric lines to run on then.
Those are most likely going to be used for construction building.

My sister knows a lady who makes reusable bags from feed sacks people give her. They're heavy duty, very well made, and just as kitchy as you please. She donates the proceeds to her local animal shelter.
We buy everything in the largest bag possible and save our feed sacks and dog/cat/parrot/sunflower seed bags for a lady who makes those at one of the poultry swaps we go to. I don't know what she does with the proceeds, maybe keeps it, but we got a bag out of the deal.
