I'm so old I Remember when:

See... I thought it was a one time thing... done shortly after birth.

I guess that proves that you are older than I am!

I think the vaccine was ended in 65? 70??
I just looked at my Smallpox vaccination card. My first one was in 1961 which was two doses a few weeks apart.
Then I was vaccinated for smallpox (boosters I suppose) in 1965, 1968, 1972 and 1979.
The World Health Organization declared smallpox eradicated in nature in 1980.
I guess I am feeling pretty good I won't die of smallpox.

Here fireworks are a tradition on New Years. Who cares about the laws? Nobody.
My dogs care! The neighbors setting off fireworks (even though the city forbids it) scares the bejeebus out of them. I end up with 370 lbs of barking and whimpering all trying to crawl into my lap and needing petted and reassured (I've only got 2 hands and 4 dogs) on my bed until the 🤬 Knock their 💩 off.

Most people here seem to plan ahead and ensure their dogs will be calm since it is a given that fireworks will go off. I don't think most of these people are trying to be jerks, I think they are trying to celebrate. Though I will say that anyone setting off fireworks past 12:15 AM should stop and head to bed (people here do it for hours afterwards.) Planning ahead will make it much easier to put up with. I ensure to have plans set out so I can get the rest I need and that my animals will be safe.

We collected all the kool-aid points...

We turned them in and got free kool-aid shirts!!!
We got the koolaid man pitcher. At some point I acquired a second one at a yard sale for cheap because not all my kids liked the same flavor. I still have them both although the one whose spout was gnawed on by teething puppies is now used for scooping chicken feed.

How about a carbide cannon?
Is this one? My son the electrician brought it home about a year ago. He was politely showing interest when in a customers house who's showed him all sorts of neat old stuff he collected. The gentleman was impressed with both my son's kindness and manners as well as the job he'd done and gave the cannon to him as he was leaving. That sucker is heavy.
