I've aged out of the job market. This is everything from dr offices to, I don't know, buying a car, my opinion about Amazon services, peanut butter, you name it. Why is it the FIRST thing they want to know about me/us?

I retired 33 years ago, so that market has been irrelevant. Agree. It seems to be prevalent on everything. If there's a box for "other", I just check that (and let whomever have fun with that one).

Yes but why this particular line of demarcation? Why not ... are you Swiss, or not? Are you ... Asian, or not? Are you ... anything, put anything here! Can anyone see how offfensive this is?

I am 72 years old. I do not believe we were taught in school that Japanese American citizens were rounded up and placed in security camps during WWII for fear that they would rise up and turn against the government.

And now, every form you fill out, the first question you are asked is "are you Hispanic/ not Hispanic?" And nobody seems to find this threatening or sinister? How is this different from Nazi Germany separating its citizens into Jew/ non-Jew?

From what I've seen, the hispanic question is (at least in part) so the government can justify all the Spanish on everything from documents to phone options to school funding.

I didn't see that one, but I remember one dealing with hatred of Germans. They took all the German books they could find, and were going to burn them.

A woman picked up one of the books, began reading out loud, in German. Then she read it in English:
"In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth...."

I remember that episode too.
