And yes, going on Craigslist and searching for coops is a great idea. I know there are always a few for sale in my area. Sometimes you have to make a wee trip, but it's usually worth it!
Even if all you can find is something temporary, that will help you get through!
Good luck!

You are not an awful person , there are alot of helpful people with alot of imagination on here more than willing to help you.

The most important is food, water, somewhere to get in out of the weather. I am sure you will be working on the coop thing soon if a 54 yr old woman with no skills can figure out some of that building stuff I know you will. Keep in mind it don't have to be perfect.

Once you get things started I am pretty sure your dad will be more than glad to help out. Don't feel bad about the power tool thing I ain't very good using them either laughable even.

Keep your eye on craigslist for stuff , habitat for humanity has a store for stuff pretty cheap too. I asked a roofing company for their scraps for my coop they gave them to me free. Let your friends & some of your friendly neighbors know what you are wanting to build I bet they will come up with all kinds of free stuff for you. Good luck to you !

So in the dog crate i added a roost so this way the wouldnt roost on the food and water containers anymore!! They love it!!! Lucky my garage is cooler then the whole house so i think that makes them pretty happy

I dont feel so bad anymore!! I still would love to get the coop done but hey, as long as i can make them comfortable then okay!!

dont worry bout it. my carpentry skills stink. i made nest boxes one day( im like my gramps, always putsing around and building something.) and when i finished... it didnt fit through my coop door. as i tried to push it through it just fell apart

awwww you are not stupid! honey you have only just begun!!! we all had/have to learn somewhere and start somewhere right? OK, now go out there and keep thinkingand doing.

You have given it a great start with what you are doing. the roost sounds perfect for them. Good job! use your resources. What do you have access to? Dont need power tools as everyone has said. You can use a screw driver, a hammer, glue, etc. no power needed. (although be careful with the hammer. it hurts like the dickens ifyou miss!). Duct tape works great for anything! you can even lean a piece of wood up against a wall in a tee-pee sort of way for them. put some straw, sawdust, shredded newspaper on the floor for them. you can use an old log for a roost if you want to! That's what I do. Just because you are not a handy man doesnt mean you cant build your kind of coop!

You might even be able to recruit a few friends to help you! make it a friend project. I bet everyone could bring something to the cause, and I bet everyone can do something different.

Worse case? just take over your family's garage and call it a Tajmahal!!!!! there's your coop already built!
