I'm tired of deceptive postings

Chickenannie I think I understand where you are coming from, but posting in this manner and then saying you are not going to name names and such is guaranteeing you will get a lot of responses. Is that any different from what you are talking about?
I get frustrated too, it seems like everything is suddenly an emergency or everyone is having an emergency and I look at it like I look at my class. If one student sneezes or coughs it's going to travel around the classroom because everyone wants to be noticed. If one of our members has a serious issue, suddenly there are 10 more with almost the same issue, and we just don't know if they are all true or not, or what we ourselves would consider a serious problem. I prefer to think that even if a person is posting to get attention, then they need that attention and perhaps they don't get it elsewhere and maybe we are helping out with their own mental health. A lot of people don't have physical or personal friends to lean on, but they do have their Internet friends. I like to think the best of people even when I know I've been taken advantage of so many times.

It will be ok.

I haven't noticed much. Course...I don't read what doesn't interest me or what I find offensive. I would like to see one of these postings. Not sure I am following here. If it really offends you, you should report it. The admins and mods are pretty good here. Personally I find the board very entertaining. Kind of like a soap opera sometimes.

I'm a little confused on this post myself... but it's not about posts like that

It's, from what I gather, about people who come here and use the forums as a way of collecting info that they use for maybe marketing etc... or people, like that one fiasco, who outright lie and create these outrageous stories to draw people in.

At least, that's what I think this post is about

Yes, exactly -- for marketing, or things like that. There's not a lot of those posts, but they've been showing up more frequently as the membership gets larger and more publicity.

no offense but the only odd post I have noticed is this one . I do not mean to offend in any way but if yo uhave a problem maybe you should spit it out and help us understand what it is cause so far Im not getting it.

So what can you do about it? Stop letting in new people? Kind of defeats the purpose of having an open forum.

If a post sounds fishy, report it to the mods and move on. If a particular member seems to annoy you more often than not, put them on ignore

Like personal info for marketing???
Or are we talking about folks gathering info and then using it for purposes like say, their own websites and taking credit for images and information?
Or using it to start their own chicken vet services?
Or to report us to the government?

I mean... I can think of a hundred reasons that people MIGHT do some things with the answers that they get... but mostly I think some of the 'odd' posts I run across are younger folk who just aren't as versed at forums, etc

Josh, I use the nylon scrubbie to buff off the poop on eggs, I make sure it's slightly wet with a little dish detergent and rub only the poopy parts, and very gently, then dry the egg.

I think your suggestion of what your neighbor does was a nice example...Don't know why you would worry about that. You were being helpful.

Don't know what the other business is about?

I was thinking that too, someone not in the know of forum etiquette....

I'm trying to protect names, so sorry if it all sounds vague. I do avoid odd posts, but sometimes you can't tell at first. And yes, I have PM'd with the most recent one.
At any rate, I just needed to rant about this. Thanks everyone. Sorry to those who didn't get what I meant.
