I'm totally bummed, my eggs came all broken

I got 12 eggs from a friend once and 11 were scrambled or the air cell was detached. only one hatched. I then asked her to ship me another dozen. same thing only 1 was good. Not her fault. The shippers are so hard on the boxes. they literaly play throw and catch to make time and speed faster.

BTW, where did you purchase these eggs? Ebay? Eggbid? ?? There may be a mechanism for you to either get a refund or to provide negative feedback on the shipping. This person's method of packaging is lazy and negligent.

It doesn't bother us a bit, when we ship eggs we try to ask the buyer if they have any special packing instructions or labling on the box. We normally ship in standard size boxes (the flat rate FRB1 for 1/2 doz eggs and the #7 box for doz). We don't mark the boxes unless requested as we have found they go thru the system better unmarked.

Think the postage due was due to shipper not have a flat rate box avaialable. That being said the uspost office handed me a Prority box to ship out flat rate, I had asked for a flat rate box. Even said are you sure this is a flat rate box? When I went to ship those eggs at another post office they had me repack the box! Was not happy on that. The flat rate boxes are smaller then the prority boxes and have printed on them flat rate.

Little eggs can go much cheeper then a box of duck eggs. In paying for shipping do expect 10 to 15 to cover shipping. Packing material is not free most of the time.

Things happen.

Clean off the eggs that are not broken, put them in your bator and candle them in 3 days to see if they develop. In the meantime contact the seller of the eggs and they will offer to ship you more eggs free, you just have to pay for the postage.

I have not had any problems with shipped eggs.

Don't worry about it, breath deeply, smile and move forward with hope and excitement that soon you will have some gorgeous eggs and baby chicks.

Thanks Chickede...
I'm trying to just move forward... and not dwell too much.
the eggs are two days in the bator now, and I was just coming on to see when I can candle them! so, Monday it is... we shall see how many have made it this far.

The egg seller is shipping me a dozen more, and I'm happy with that. He was appologetic and offered right away to ship more... No charge. I paid the postage due, and am not asking for that back either, it just happens, I think it was an honest mistake in the PO giving him the wrong box. (I purchased two dozen originally but he did give me the second dozen for nearly nothing but extra postage and a few more dollars... and he sent a couple of spares too)

Now, here's to at least some still being alive!!!

so far the bator temp is good and steady at 99.6 to 99.9, humidity is about 50, and steady, so, I'm feeling pretty good!

I hope he learned his lesson on packing eggs! I think there is always hope... I have had cracked eggs, even ones with a "dent" hatch. It all depends on whether the inner membrane was broken or not. If the are oozing, don't leave them in the incubator. But handle them carefully, and there's a chance...

Well, I am a total dunce, and have tried candling twice now, to see if there are 'veins'...
and all I see is nuthing.
well, I see a dark blob at the top of the eggs... but no matter WHAT I do I don't see any of the stuff in the pics...
poo.
the eggs ARE brown... and speckled too! so that doesn't help of course.
any tips?
I figure since I have the dark blob at the top I might have something going on, am i wrong?
I went to the threads on candling and saw some of candling ostrich eggs that were more similar than the ones of chicken eggs...
I have no idea what I'm lookin at...

oh, and a second dozen is on it's way as replacements...
when candling what I CAN see is that half of the ones I have in there have huge cracks, multiple stars of cracks, and dents...

do I move the current eggs to one side and put new ones in the other?

anyone know where I can buy the little soft rubber turner egg holders? the rest of what I have are for quail eggs... it's the older Little Giant turner with clear soft rubber 'egg cups'

Thanks!

I usually don't see veins until day 4 or 5 and that's on easy to see bantam eggs. On the EE eggs I couldn't see veins. Just the blob that developped around day 7. On the dark brown eggs I'm happy if I see it getting darker.

Most wait until day 10 to make any decisions on whether an egg is going to develop or not.
