I'm Updset - Mazda Dealer Service - Warranty Issue Not Covered

If the wall of the cylinder has spalled (or worse) I'd think the damage would make a very nice picture/vid. Equipment such as this can be rented (better yet, know any docs/vets, etc.?): http://www.scopetech.com/industrial.html
If there is an actual `perforation', a nice magnified shot of the breach and the gunk bleeding through could be made to look like a dam collapse.

Consider yourself lucky. I've yet to have anything die until the equipment is `twenty days' out of warranty.

Good luck!

An update:

I took my car to another mechanic and we:

1) Pulled things apart and looked around
2) Did a pressure test on the coolant system and it seemed fine
3) Looked around some more. Inspected the hole / indentation with a flashlight and micro-mirror on a stick

At the end of the visit the mechanic believes that:

1) The hole / indentation in the well wall isn't where any liquid is coming from
2) The liquid is water and not coolant
3) Water probably somehow got into that one cylinder and caused the problem.
4) Doesn't think that this problem will cause any catestrophic failure
5) That if it happens again and causes big problems that I may have a case with Mazda since I have documented that I came in for that problem BEFORE the warranty expired.

So, I actually feel quite comforted in all this and am not inclined to push the issue with Mazda. If the service tech had simply spent 10 minutes with me like this mechanic and helped to resolve my concerns and questions it would have been the end of the story and I would have gone away a happy customer instead of vowing never to go there again and writing up a bad Yelp review (to add to the other 5 negative ones already there).

Thanks again everybody for your comments and suggestions!

Glad everything turned out OK. Now that particular dealership has lost a good customer to what I call a lack of "customer investment". I guess some are bound and determined to learn the hard way.
