steal one of mom:s to put with her so she isnt aloneSo glad you had a happy ending! I went through almost the same thing earlier this month! Mine also survived but Mama wouldn't take it back. It's all alone in our garage under a light.View attachment 1887071
I'm going to be in the same situation next week with only one hatched chick. I think I'll go to the local farm store and get a flock mate for it if they still have any. I know they do now, but I want to make sure this one hatches before I do that. Aren't chickens fun?She only had 1 other chick! She's a banty and first time mom. I only gave her 4 eggs and 2 weren't viable. That one hatched at 19 days. The second pipped at 22. Then she and the chick were pecking at the pipped hole and we saw blood. So I took it from her.
And we work so hard at it with all the latest gadgets!!!One of the earliest incubators were egg coats that Chinese women wore to incubate eggs. They had a lot of pockets to keep the eggs apart and body heat incubated them. It required sleeping on their backs and not rolling though. LOL
