Impacted Crop Surgery (with video)

Crazy glue can be used instead of stitches. It works. Saline solution can be used as well to flush out the crop after removal of impaction. We boiled salt and water to make ours.
The problem with the glue is that it does not always work well internally. With stitching internally, you know that the incision will not open. Yes,i have used glue on myself and on animals.

We made sure the crop it self at the incision was dried well before apply the crazy glue. We also let the glue dry before putting glue on her skin to close it all off.

Edited to add.
What would you use to stitch the incision with?

Ordinary nylon fishing line is a first choice for internal/external sutures(non-absorbable suture(monfilament)and is less likely to cause infection, but you can also use line/cotton/silk. Linen/cotton thread i have also used. This is based on my understanding of medical procedures and types of surgical thread used,to my knowledge ordinary nylon fishing line is the same/similar material used in surgical sutures.

There is a post somewhere on here that a lady used horsehair from her horse's tail for stitches. Sterilized then used on a chicken. I thought that was a good idea.

Hello, how much penicillin were you instructed to give her at a time, at what intervals, and for how long? Also, I believe you said you could administer it in the breast area or the thigh correct?

Thanks for posting the video, it was amazing to see how much straw and junk actually came out!

We only had to pluck a few feathers from the area. She had recently gone broody and was already bald-ish there. The vet just plucked the rest. Plus the outer feathers covered the bald area so she and the others left it alone.
