Impacted crop

Just wanted to give an update. This morning her crop was noticeably smaller. Have her the second dose of Miconazole. Her crop didn’t feel watery so after I gave her the meds I gave her coconut oil and messaged for a bit. It felt really doughy. She pooped a couple times over night and again before I left for work this morning. I tried to mix the coconut oil with some crumbles but she wasn’t having that so I went back freezing it and putting it in her that way.

I did leave out some crumbles for her she looked interested in it but hadn’t eaten any by the time I left. She’s still drinking water. This evening I’ll either make her another egg or make a mash with her crumbles to give to her.

I did bring her back in last night where I can monitor her and left her in while I’m at work. I’ll bring her back out this evening for a few hours when I get home so I can monitor her. Didn’t want to leave her out all day and her eat a bunch of grit or something and make matters worse. She seemed happier outside so I hope I’m not doing more harm than good 😔

Still about the same. I have been giving her coconut oil twice a day. She didn’t eat much yesterday wasn’t interested in eggs like she was the day before. She played with a little wet crumbled but didn’t eat much to speak. She’s still drinking. After giving the coconut oil last night I have her a stool softener too just to see if that will help. When I got up this morning she had pooped a lot more than usual. Her crop is back to feeling watery. I gave her more coconut this morning along with her Miconazole. This afternoon I gave her a second dose of coconut oil and this will be starting her third day of the Miconazole. I did not massage her crop this evening since it felt really watery. I did not want to risk her throwing up.

If this has turned to Sour crop how long does it usually take for the medicine to clear it up? Or could I be looking at a separate issue? When I massaged the crop last night it wasn’t more doughy. I was able to feel grit in it but today its back to feeling full of water.

I'm not sure how long it would take for the medicine to clear it up, it probably depends how serious the sour crop is.
She could have a pendulous crop and not sour crop. Do some research on pendulous crop.
Is there any foul odor coming from her mouth now?
I would start giving her some greek yogurt, garlic, and fermented feed.
Here's something I found on another thread about FF.->

Here's the thread on the FF(fermented Feeds)
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/645057/fermented-feeds-anyone-using-them

It's looonnnggg lol but the main point is probiotics and prebiotics, like the beneficial microbes found in yogurt. Beneficial bacteria help maximize the potential of nutrients found in feed. You can ferment really easy and quick by adding some apple cider vinegar (MUST be whole, including the "mother", not pasteurized) to your feed, with enough water to cover and soak. The microbes in the ACV will colonize much like yeast in bread dough and those microbes are what we are after.

If you have yogurt on hand, that can help in a quick pinch for sour crop as well, but fermenting continuously can prevent any future episodes and increase overall vigor and health of the whole flock.

Thank you. I will give that a read. I have Greek yogurt in the fridge. I will see if she eats some of that. I will also look into the fermented feed. There is a slight odor coming from her when she opens her mouth but it is not bad. I had to ask my husband to smell and he agreed.

I do not think it’s a pendulous crop because it does not hang down.

I tried to feed her some yogurt. She didn’t seem interested in it. I mixed it with a little bit of egg and she seemed curious. She picked at it a little bit but didn’t really eat. There were 2 occasions where she bent over and fluid started coming out of her beak and she swallowed it back down. I put vitamins with electrolytes in her water yesterday so she can get something in her. Should I switch it to water with ACV?

When was the last time she really ate? She probably needs to eat.
How full is her crop? Small? Big?

She ate a whole egg on Monday and that was the last time she ate anything with some size. Her crop is big but it’s gone down some from the size where it was impacted. I’ve tried everything I know to try to entice her to eat. She typically loves crumbles in water but pretty much just pushed her beak around in it.

Edit to add: she still has energy. She jumps up on the little roosting bar that I put on the kennel she’s in. When I took her out yesterday she ran around with the flock at times. I did not take her out today due to the fluids coming out when she tried to eat.

Also to add her poops change. Sometime they are very liquidy and some time they look more solid but when they are solid they are gooey and almost elastic feeling.

This is her currently.
