Impacted crop .....

You could also have someone hold her and give her meds. Make sure to give probiotics, watch for sour crop where as antibiotics kills the good bacteria and these antibiotics are going directly into her crop. To bad they didn't prescribe the injectable antibiotics. How big are the pills?

Is she a standard size hen, if the pill is like a calcium pill size, she should be able to take half at a time. You could also try putting it into some sardines. Chickens love sardines. Wrapping her in a towel and hold her between your legs, and gently opening her beak, and putting the pill in will be a lot easier for the both of you. They will fight you. You will get the hang of it.

Thanks guys, so many ideas. She is quite a sizable hen! Even the vets said shes one of the bigger ones they have seen . I will keep an eye on sour crop got to take her to the vet for a check up in a week so he will give her the once over. :)

Progress, i managed to get her to eat half of an antibiotic!! I just used layers pellets and she pecked it right out of my hand! Although she hates sardines!!? Is mine the only hen that does? Gunna try the eye dropper method as she NEEDS these antibiotics!

Gladice has had all her antibiotics she just pecked them straight out of my hand. She definitely on the up and got to go back Thursday to the vet for a check up. When the vet gives her the all clear what's the best way to introduce her back to the flock? shes been in solitary for 2 weeks and the pecking order has changed. Is it best to put her in and let then re-adjust? Thank for your help guys :)

Try to figure a way to segregate from the birds, use a dog kennel, fence her off an area next to where the birds are going to be. I had one in here for about a week, put her in with the birds, they didn't forget her. Shes the top of the pecking order and wasn't long letting them know shes the boss. You could start with s few birds in the coop with her supervising them and see how it goes. Have her in there first and add the birds.

A little help please my hen fully recovered and is now back with an blocked crop, she's not had any hay, straw or grass since she's been out of the vets! She has been like this for three days, I've withheld food, given her olive oil, massaged her crop vigously, she was pooing solids now it comes out as just pure greenish water!!? She has given me eggs since she has been blocked. Seems happy clucking etc! Her crop Is real squishy - any ideas?
