Impacted crop .....

Success, my gladice is A-ok! Completely flat crop this morning and her crop bra is on the way!! Extremely happy that my girl is ok.

That good news. :) I was told three flat crops in the morning in a row and she should be ok. Crossing my fingers.

She's still going strong, gives me a flat crop every morning so far (keeping my fingers crossed firmly for many more flat crop mornings)

I just found this thread and it is awesome! So much great info! I have a 18 week EE with impact/sour/slow crop...I dont really know. All I know is she's losing weight I'm trying everything, vet tells me limit water, and I'm freaking out that I'm gonna lose her. My (very manly) husband is extremely attached to this chicken and really so am I. We are currently doing baking soda in water, yogurt and eggs with olive oil, and this morning I made her a crop bra (still not going over well with her). Any help would be appreciated.

I know exactly what your going through!! I went through the same thing finding out much later that she had an impacted crop. I luckily have a Avian vet near by who suggested surgery. At this point it was our only option or lose her. She also had lost a lot of weight! The vet took an X-ray finding that her crop was impacted to the size of a baseball. She made it through fine and is back to her funny self! I took all the grass bales from their coops and where I had spread it. He told me that some chickens don't do well with long pieces of grass or bales of hay/grass. They gorge themselves and they don't pass it. I watch her off and on because it seems she is the only one who has this problem, thankfully! From now on I make sure they all eat without any problem because if I caught it in time with Penny I could of helped her pass it with olive oil and massage, but if it gets too impacted you can't help them they will need surgery.

If you love this chicken, like I love mine, find a vet because she will starve.

Wish you the best!

I found that garlic helped my hen along with the massaging the crop etc & she's been fine ever since (touch wood) - let us know how you get on - good luck

& .... I now have a blocked crop on another one of my hens! She's very thin (she's always been the smallest and was quite scraggy when we were given her) she has been fine and I only found her blocked crop this morning (she was fine a week ago) once I remove the blockage is there anything I can give her to get her back to a healthy weight again?
