Well, good news. On the advice of the homeopathic vet, we reopened the wound which had not really healed well. Instead of (human quality) Crazy Glue which hadn't worked completely, we sutured her with disolvable thread. I fed her Arnica and Calendula as per the vet's instructions for the first day. She is drinking on her own and I have given her wet chick starter, which she is now eating. She seems much happier. I sit her in my lap several times a day and do Reiki on her, which she seems to enjoy. (I think she also likes the contact.) I am so amazed at the tenacity of hens. Almost everyone we consulted with advised us to euthanize the hens straight off. I am glad we could offer them something else. By the way, I just want to clarify that we were able to do the procedures without hurting the birds, thanks to a good vet who gave us the freezing injections.
