Importing from a foreign country

I wish it wasn't so crazy expensive

You and I both, but I am happy to have the ones that I do have. I have the ones from Kurt, plus I have 3 hens that I got from a guy here in AZ. who got his from Chet who was the original person who had and bred them here. Chet got out of doing these Australorps, and decided to do the heritage RIR's.

I think the fee is all poultry so it's probably more work to care for a turkey or duck but it's still crazy lol

But oh wow that's awesome! I'd love to get some of them eventually. Which ones do you like better?

Kurt's seem to be just a little bit bigger than the ones that I got from the AZ. guy, but not by much. Other than that, they are pretty much the same. They are good sized, and they lay eggs well.

Huh, that's good to know. Kurt's would probably be easier because he's closer. How's the personality?

That would be fine for those who have enough money to import a new bloodline from over there. But, I got mine through a line that is already here.
Oh I'm sure there is fine quality here. The post is about importation though and several times Autralorps where brought up with England being a source. My comment was to that. Inn reality the Aussie's are having a heck of a time getting the Austral back to peak performance as much as we are here in America. This was once THE breed and record holding egg layer for decades. Large scale business made all that local farm intensive upkeep of breed slack. It's up to the breeders to get the breed back into condition. No idea how shallow the gene pool is here in the States. But again, if importing that breed I'd go to the source.

For that matter I think we have more than enough breeds in the States. Each has an issue that needs work on. Some American made breeds have serious issues, with some of the varieties of breed. There is plenty of room for improvement and plenty of varieties if not full on breeds that need attention. GFF and all the importation of land race breeds is merely a flavor of the year and in the big picture a setback to any serious work being done on what we have. Then don't even get me started on how Cook would be rolling over in his grave if he saw the utility bird of Egland he created being turned into a fanciers puffball of feathers. Wow...England really pushed them in a different direction than his intent and desire.

I must amend what I said of GFF- I do think the work they've done to figure out all the red tape for importaion is important. There is need at times to get new blood even on a continent this large. The stock they brought in of German New Hampshire was a great resource to domestic breeders....I was rambling, and sure if I had limited space and wanted a great layer would love Jagerhorns SP?. But the rest was sincere. Too many flavors of the year distracts from serious improvement of what we have already. They need work!
