Apple Cider?

Yes! We have a bunch of apple trees on the property and we've pressed about 20 bushels so far this year.

We have a pretty good system, where the press is on a pallet we can bring out of the barn with the tractor.

We often tie pressing days into K's Gallery's weekend activities.

Some of it gets drunk or taken home as fresh cider, but a lot gets put up in the cellar for winter festivities!

Yes. We will have hard apple cider and hard pear cider this year at different carbonations.

Pen and Pal are doing great! Thanks for asking. Pal appears to be done with the egg laying routine for the season (phew) and Pen has not been very diligent about her last two eggs. They did have their first vet visit, and they did great!

How do you chop the apples before pressing them?

A friend tried pressing apples for the first year and had a great time - with alot of learning curve, a lot of bloopers, and a little finished product. They promise to do better next year, lol. He took 2 bushels of apples from our trees to press and lost that whole batch.

Our press has a grinder that has been retrofitted with a motor. We store most of the apples for a few weeks before pressing to let them soften up, and most don't need an chopping before grinding. We do cut the harder ones in half. Depending in the apple, we get 1-2 gallons of cider from a bushel of apples.

Nothing like fresh cider. I’ve never tasted hard cider. Pen an Pal I had forgotten you got another. It has been a while. That’s so sweet of y’all to give them such a good home. I’d love to see some pics when you get time.
