I recently read Andrew Lawler's well-researched and well-written book, "Why Did the Chicken Cross the World" and in honor of National Poultry Day today, I posted a few items from the book that I found interesting.
The book offers a thorough background on Red Jungle Fowl, as well as a chapter dedicated to the history and practice of cock-fighting. Also quite a bit about Queen Victoria and her cochins and the "hen fever" that boosted the popularity of keeping chickens in the mid-1800's. Definitely worth a read and a great gift for any flock keeper.
