Hi, my name is Sammy. A bantam rooster in my prime. I was born in a hatchery like my broodmates. Spent a day or so in a box before being put into my first owner, molly's (name was changed for privacy) house. They doted on us hand and foot. I grew strong and happy, the leader of my brood. A rooster among roosters in my opinion. I spent half the summer there, until I started crowing. Molly, and her kids brought my to a new place. With many other chickens and a few other roosters that I could crow back and fourth with. I spent my first days there on my own before they let me start being with the rest of their largest flock. I was in that flock for a while, free ranging on the fresh grass. The head rooster's name was big red. But there were other roosters to. One named little red. I heard them say that little red was big red's heir when he passed away. There was also a nameless rooster. I could also see other bantams, really fluffy ones, in the pen next to our main pen where we stay early morning, and then are brought into when it starts getting dark. There were also many ducks, who are so loud that I can sometimes barely hear myself crow! But then after a few months, I was moved into a smaller pen. It had bantam hens as small as I was! I could finally be the king of my flock again. I was the only rooster there. I was the only rooster for a good month before they added some somewhat younger silkies, one of which was a rooster. But he didn't pick fights, so I left him alone. I lived like that with him in the pen well into my first, and last fall. Until I started having trouble roosting, and developed sour crop at the same time. The humans took me inside to try and help me, but nothing they tried was working. I kept getting worse, instead of better. Then, just a few days ago, they took me back outside and put me down as quickly and painlessly as they could. Now, a few days later, I watch them from the heavens above. I miss my flock down there that are my size, but now.... I'm warm in god's embrace. And I know, someday, that my flock and friends down on earth will join me in heaven. But I hope it's not any time soon.

A true story that happened only just recently. Here is Sammy.

I agree. He was loved by every one who knew him. His original owner and her kids come to visit him all the time. He held a special place in the hearts of everyone in my family to... We loved his color and agree he was beautiful.
