In the emergency of a natural disaster where do you move your chickens?

My plan is to put a small tent in my basement...

Hmm that wouldn’t work for me. I don’t have a basement. Or an attic for that matter (but the attic is not needed) but if I had a basement I would still leave as I’m not sure if the smoke would reach me and if it is toxic

I see where you fill the tires up with soil for planting. My idea was to use the empty tires more as a frame. That way, if/when I wanted to move the tire to a different location, I could easily lift it up and roll it away.

Swiveling catches might be a good way to attach the screen to the tire, and I can see the advantage to that if you wanted to remove the screen and just let the chickens tear up grass and soil. I was thinking more in terms of using screws and those large flat fender washers. If I wanted/needed to remove the screws, my little powered drill would make that job really easy.

Anyway, I thought your idea of using old tires to make feeding frames/planters for your chickens was a good idea. I have a number of old tires behind the garage and they would last forever as grazing frames. It give me another option for grazing frames that I had not considered. Thanks.

You are right aart. The tyres are no good if you want to move the frames about.

I have my tyres around the edges of the chook run which prevents the hens from undermining the fencing and gives them more places to perch so I don't intend to move them at all. It works well for my situation.

FYI. I measured the depth of one of the tires I had laying around behind the garage and it was 9 inches from the bottom of the tire to the top where the wire frame would be. That is a lot deeper than 3 1/2 inches if one used a normal 2X4 frame. So I might just go with using some scrap 2x4's I have on hand. I dug out the 1/2 X 1/2 hardware cloth yesterday, so that grazing frame build will happen. Still, I liked your tire idea and may use it somewhere in the future.
