In the final stretch and have majorly messed up. Please Help.

Ok you are hardcore... I needed lots and lots of drugs. In my defense I was in active labor for 5 days with my first and 4 with my second. You would think 3 days of chicks would be a piece of cake. Not so much. I have decided to start a mantra. When I picked up my chicks last year from the post office I spent the 25 minute drive there chanting "Please god don't let me find dead chicks in a box." Low and behold they all made it. I figure if I couldn't kill those I can get a 100% hatch. (Positive thinking

.) I am positive that I have made enough mistakes to bumble my way into perfection. lol

5 days?!

My first labor lasted 5 hours. 5 very painful hours filled with vomiting, but still just 5 hours. Both girls came much faster than the boys, for some reason.

My first time with chicks was getting them through the mail, and they all arrived perfect and I raised them all successfully to adulthood. Starting them from eggs is on a whole new level of freakout and screw-up potential. LOL
Here's to hoping we both do great.

Yeah 5 days. It was awful. Midwife just kept saying if your water hasn't broke we will wait. No sense needing a c-section.

Good luck to you. Hopefully I will be posting pics of hatching chicks soon. Good luck to you too.

You are doing fine. Breathe. Your chicks will be fine. Breathe. Hatching isn't as hard as you are making it. Breathe. And stop reading about all the problems that can happen until you need that information. And don't forget to breathe.

Lol I always thought breathing was highly over rated. I am sure by the first pip I will have asphyxiated. Something tells me this will be the longest week of my life. Thanks though. I will make a concerted effort to read read the troubleshooting manuels until I need them. Although I believe the damage has been done.

I read on another post that if you have to get into the hatcher, try to do it when none of the eggs have pipped. You either have intact eggs or chicks that have already hatched. Once they have pipped it exposes the unhatched chick to the atmosphere in the bator where a drop in the humidity would effect it. The steam in the bathroom is also great idea. Good luck on your hatch and post pics of the new fuzzy butts.

I will post pics. I don't know if I will have a choice as to opening it up but will try to do it when not much is happening. Thanks

I use the windows in my LG if I have to open it at any time. Lifting one window is a much smaller area to lose temp and humidity than separating the two parts completely. Yes, the heating element is hot to the touch, but I haven't had severe burns from it even on my very large hands. The hardest thing is picking up the eggs in an awkward angle.

That is exactly where mine are. My parents think I am crazy. I have cats and a dog which would love to be in that tub with them, so the door is closed currently.

Great idea. Thanks! As for burns and small windows I am set.... small hands and a chef. lol Immune to heating element burns.
