Hi all, we are a chicken coop in Oakland. We have 18 hens in an old horse stable with free access to an enclosed (fenced on all sides and top) paddock. Question: we are now doing without any bedding in the stables which have a big roost, water, food and the nesting boxes. Is there an important reason to use bedding in the coop? The coop still has the rubber floor maps from horse times.

Right now we can scrape up the manure every week and coop members can bag it and take it home. Its easier than having bedding in some ways.

If bedding is important, what do you all recommend?
