I tell you, when you see one of those giants standing in front of you it is truly awesome. So few people keep them because they take a lot of space and eat a lot. The breeder up here in MA is Bill West. If you search his name and buff cochin you will likely come up with all of his awards. His birds are way bigger than a beach ball and have incredible form. Add to that, they glimmer like gold. (can you tell I am dying to get some?) When they crow it reminds me of a hound dog baying. There is another great breeder of some of the nicest partridge cochins you will ever see down in Delaware (I think). When you see photos of these birds it does not do them justice and hard to tell just how big they are. At the local shows they are placed in double cages and are still cramped. Of course, another great breeder up here, Guy Roy, who is known for his massive rocks as well. They are easily the same size of Jersey Giants. When I first started in chickens I freaked out thinking that by barred rocks were going to get that big. Of course, coming from a hatchery, they were typical size and matured to half the size of his birds. I guess the point is that there are some truly massive fowl out there but size does not always equate quality.
