Hands Down, Barred Rock!

My Barred Rock will sit on my feet until I am forced to either carry her around with me or walk with a rather chubby hen on top of my feet. She is an absolute love sponge. Next is my White Lehorn. I know that is unusual, but she wants held all the time and loves to go to sleep with me carrying her. But then, all of mine are incredibly sweet.

I vote for my Silkies - They are so sweet and mild mannered,
BUT can move when they see me comming, I really have to be carfefull not to step on anyone.

I would have to say that the buff orpingtons are by far the sweetest breed of all that I have ever had. Yet, I have a flock of 10 young delaware pullets that are showing extremely friendly traits as well. They can't seem to get enough attention and love to be petted.
I have 27 free pasture hens of which 19 of them are buff orps. As Jody stated, they are always under foot. People laugh at me and those hens because no matter where I go in the pasture they are all under my feet and I am forever tripping over them.
One buff orp hen in particular is Ms Personality. We call her Ms Gabby. She pecks at my pants and shoes to get us to pick her up. Then you should hear the conversation with her squaking and carrying on.

It sounds like you all have some very sweet and loving chickens.

I never knew before I hatched my own a few weeks ago that chickens had such personality and loved attention. I also never knew I could enjoy them so much as pets.

This began as a simple and "safe" science fair project for my daughter. I say "safe" because I am a major animal lover. I have way too many pets already and I figured chicks would be something I wouldn't get attached to and fall for and want to keep. Boy I don't know how I figured so wrong.

They really are fun to raise. I am sure a lot of their personality depends on how they are raised and of course breed will figure into the equation. I know you all spend a lot of time and give them a lot of love. I don't know what mine are yet but they are sweet and I enjoy spending time with them.

I hope one day soon I will be able to hatch some more. Deciding what breed next is the hard part lol.

Don't feel bad, I am sure lots of us started out feeling quite safe. LOL I got chickens for the eggs. I never imagined myself head over heels in love with them.....it happens.

Modern Game Birds are amazing!!! They are so friendly. My little 5 year old cousin loves playing with them. They are beautiful birds too. Cochins are sweet too. I have a frizzle cochin that just sits on the table and lets people come up to her and pet her. She is my favorite.
