In your opinions...which is the most friendly breed?

My Buff, Blue/Black/Splash Orpingtons... even my Orps roosters follow me all over the yard like puppy dogs waiting to be petted....

From owning and handeling this breed well enough I would have to say Silkie Bantams. Even the roosters are nice and sweat to there owners, nt to mention the hens, they love to cuddle, follow, and do lots of thngs with you

I have a different take on this one. I don't have a breed that's the friendliest, but one in each of 5 breeds that are friendly. One of the speckled sussex is the most friendly, then one of the golden comets, then a RIR, an EE, and a barred rock. All three of the BRs will "let" me pick them up. My buff orps are not friendly, but will let me hold them without protest if I manage to catch one. Least friendly of all, as a breed, the silver-laced wyandotte rooster and pullet.

I have a cuckoo maran that is super friendly, but we've raised her from birth and my kids have handled her a ton, so that may have something to do with it.

I just bought three Buff Chanteclers (2 hens and 1 roo) and I LOVE THEM! They are so sweet and don't put up a fight when you hold them. I think they would stay in my arms all day and not care!

On the other hand, the Australorps have always liked me . . . what can I say . . .

Agreed. Our Aussie Olympia is the most friendly and has her own special voice for people.

Our BR Pheobe is very friendly too. She'll hang around my mom when she's gardening in hope of some bugs thrown her way!

Hey, nobody mentioned Red X links! Rita's pretty friendly, but mostly just wants your food.

Vanda, our SLW, is the least friendly of our 1st batch. She tolerates holding, but doesn't (like our other hens do) come running, screaming at the top of her lungs, as soon as you open the screen door. She plucks poor Rita, who doesn't complain, and terrorizes the 2nd batch of teens. Bad eggs, that gal. She does like to steal my hot dogs, though.

You are totally right. Our 1st batch of chicks (including Pheebs and Lympy) are WAAAAY friendlier than our 2nd batch (EEs and a Welsummer), who we didn't spend as much time with (

). However, I have persuaded them to take treats out of my hand and actually WANT treats (maybe NOT such a good idea...) by spending "quality time" (my term for "escaping from having to clean my room", but hey, it works) with them.

I

each and every one of them, friendliest or not.

All of my mille fleur d'Uccles were super super freindly. GIrly follows me EVERYWHERE and if I bend down to do something she flies up and sits on my back

If I put my hand down she runs forward and sits on it so that I pick her up and give her loving.
I should get a video of her.
