Inactive sick hen

I was using the SulMet at 2 tablespoons / gallon of water for 5 full days. & giving 3/4 ml B Complex injection twice daily.

She has shown some slight improvement but not quite there yet.

I started yesterday giving 3/4 ml injections of LA-200 twice daily.

Hopefully one of these treatments will kick in and clear out what ever she has.

Im still force feeding her with a large 2 oz syringe with a mush of chick starter, 1 whole egg, and enough water with Sulmet in it to
make it flowable thru the syringe . Also giving just water a little at a time to prevent dehydration.

It probably would be much easier to just put her down, however i'm determined to figure out what is going on and what this crud responds to.
Seems there are quite a number of folks on here that are experiencing the same or very similar symptoms and the vets / experts are completely stumped as to what is going on.

Im just wondering if the large poultry producers and hatcheries are creating a problem that is bigger than us all with the overuse of medications.
Are the chickens of today becoming less resilient with poor immunity and strains of diseases becoming more resistant
The chickens i used to raise several years back never needed any meds and never got sick. All they needed was clean water , food and clean living quarters and they were good to go.

I'll keep you posted if i can get her thru this.

It looks like a respiratory problem. Dawg53 put a very good link in his post. I hope she gets better.

Mine's drinking gatorade after reading about that, perked up, and is now sleeping. I'm keeping her inside for the next 2 days and will watch her closely. I have used colloidal silver sucessfully on me, and may try that too on her... good for any kind of infection...

Be careful with Gatorade, I think it has a high sodium content and chickens are sensitive to sodium. Don't know how much is bad, or what it does, just know I've seen it repeated in books and magazines. Might check and see if the Pedialyte knock-offs (children's electrolyte drink) have a lot of sodium if you can't get a hold of some chicken electrolyte mix.

I think she has finally turned the corner!

The snotty mouth discharge is cleared up
completely and some substance is starting to come back to her stool.

She is feeling well enough today that she sort of gave me a bit of a fight to give her the injections and has
gone outside in the fresh air for the first time in a week.

The LA 200 seems to be working quickly.

now to get some strength back and i think she will survive this.

I picked up a pouch of the Electrolyte & Vitamins Plus water soluble powder to add to her water yesterday at CO-OP so that should work.

She is really weak right now and tires out easily. I was watching her earlier and she wants to scratch and eat but just cant do much.

Maybe 1 more day of syringe feeding / watering and she will be able to do it on her own & I am going continue the full regimen with the LA200 to fully get rid of what ever this crud was.

Luckily all the others in the flock seem perky, strong and healthy ( but im keeping a close watch and the first hint of anything im starting them straight on the LA200)

I read about here, and bought, a high calorie paste today, in a tube. It's the PetSmart version- GNC High Calorie Booster for dogs, and gave her 1/4 teaspoon. She scarfed it down, after I put it in her beak. She so weak....

Greycat, that's awesome!

Nancypo, that paste sounds good, wish I'd heard of it. Didn't mean to sound harsh about the Gatorade, just trying to share info I'd want to know in your shoes
